Long Distance Races

Small catamarans can cover long distances at sea with safety and surprising comfort.  This is something that marks multihulls apart from the dinghy and keelboat fleets which rarely stray off a restricted race track.  Opportunities for sailors to test their long distance skills are as follows:

Several long distance races are run each year, especially in Holland, Belgium and France.  For example….

  • Ronde om Texel, the famous race round the Dutch island of Texel which regularly attracts more than 500 boats
  • Raide de Houat, a long distance race held during the Eurocat regatta at Carnac in Brittanny, France
  • Raide de Corsair, run from St. Malo in France along the beautiful Brittany coastline
  • Raid Revenge, an endurance event held in the Swedish Baltic Archipeligo
