Small catamarans can cover long distances at sea with safety and surprising comfort.  This is something that marks multihulls apart from the dinghy and keelboat fleets which rarely stray off a restricted race track.  Opportunities for sailors to test their long distance skills are as follows:

Several long distance races are run each year, especially in Holland, Belgium and France.  For example….

  • Ronde om Texel, the famous race round the Dutch island of Texel which regularly attracts more than 500 boats
  • Raide de Houat, a long distance race held during the EuroCat regatta at Carnac in Brittany, France
  • Raide de Corsair, run from St. Malo in France along the beautiful Brittany coastline
  • Raid Revenge, an endurance event held in the Swedish Baltic Archipelago
